11 Dec Lesotho Water Restrictions Loom
An article by Mohalenyane Phakela of the Lesotho Times in a November 2018 article reveals that a potable water crisis in Lesotho is looming. Phakela cited that the prevailing dry spells in the country have set Lesotho on course for erratic potable water supply. The Water and Sewage Company (WASCO) of Lesotho have stated that a few districts( Butha-Buthe, Leribe, Maputsoe, Mapoteng, Quthing and Mohales-Hoek) in Lesotho all experience shortages and that water restrictions will come into effect from December 2018.
Measures by the water body to alleviate the water disaster include requests to the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP) for water release from the Tsehlanyane river and water diversions of the Qomoqomong and ‘Maletsunyane rivers. Basotho are advised to adopt efficient safe water practices such as using buckets for washing cars and watering cans for gardening.
